Iran’s media image has long been synonymous with oppression, brutality and fundamentalism — a byproduct of its leadership and government, whose eyes the whole world has viewed the nation through for decades.

Breaking The Glass Ceiling celebrates Tara Ghazanfar, Tara Kangarlou, Nika Diamond-Krendel, Nikki Meftah and Hana Shahnavaz; five Iranian women who were either born and raised in Iran or lived the majority of their lives in Western countries. Now, six months into the largest anti-government protests in Iran, they’ve come together to celebrate the voices of Iranian women and discuss their relationship with their motherland. This movement, unlike any other time in Iranian history, has united individuals across the world in an effort to amplify their voices in honor Iranian women whom they connect with through their joint heritage.

In a very special campaign which seeks to inform and raise awareness of the country deemed the ‘underdog’ of the Middle East, we hope this issue will educate Iranians and non-Iranians alike outside of the peripheral vision of its government and long-standing negative misconceptions, and allow the people of Iran to really be seen for what may be the first time in over 4 decades.
