Emails that have been released between Elon Musk and Sir Dennis Hassabis, the chief executive of Google DeepMind, surrounding a lawsuit have outlined a feud between the two. The richest man in the world and the British Nobel Laureate were once friends but have become rivals within the past few years, as Musk was set to believe that Hassabis would be a dictator of AI. However, before this, they both had a common goal: to develop AI for the betterment of the human race and to create protection for people surrounding AI. Hassabis soon realised that Musk's mission to colonise Mars would be jeopardised if AI was introduced into that plan. Their relationship faced a rocky period when Hassabis rejected an offer by Elon to buy DeepMind and instead sold the company for $500 million. Within their emails, Hassabis was planning to “kill” OpenAI, The Times states. Some fear that because of Musk’s close relationship with Trump, AI safety rules can be easily breached, despite Trump stating to repeal Biden’s executive order on the issue to provide protection from AI. What will the future of AI look like if the two main cooperators are not getting along?
