The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May, 2023.
King Charles is set to be crowned alongside Queen Consort at a lavish ceremony in Westminster Abbey later this year. This event will form part of a long weekend filled with celebrations for the new monarch.
The King ascended the throne after the death of his dear mother Queen Elizabeth II in September last year making King Charles the oldest new monarch in English History. Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II aged 25 and celebrated 70 years on the throne.

A Coronation is the official and traditional ceremony of a King or Queen as the act of placement or bestowal of a brown upon a monarch’s head. The term does not only refer to the physical crowning but to the whole celebration of the ceremony wherein the act of crowning takes place.
The purpose of a Coronation acts as a symbol that the King swears to Govern the peoples of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms. This is the formal process on an individual’s journey to becoming King or Queen.
What will happen at the Coronation Ceremony?
The King and Queen Consort will arrive at Westminster Abbey (Buckingham Palace) in London, United Kingdom.
Both The King and Queen Their Majesties will be crowned in the Abbey in London. In a service that will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
This ceremony will be joined by senior members of the Royal Family, public figures, world leaders and 450 representatives of Charities and Community Groups.
There will also be an extra bank holiday across the UK on May 8th.
Buckingham Palace has said in an official statement “the ceremony will reflect the monarch’s role today and will look towards the future while being rooted in long standing traditions and pageantry”.
