Lee Jae-myung, a South Korean opposition leader, was convicted by the courts for contradicting election laws, as a result, has been given a 2 year suspended prison sentence and 1 million won (£568.00) fine. It is believed that while campaigning to become president he used this platform to spread a false redric about government corruption. This will significantly affect South Korea’s politics, as Lee will be unable to run for president in the future, including the next election in March 2027. Lee has told reporters that he is planning to appeal his verdict, which has been given by the court of Seoul to Central District Court. Lee has stated, “There are still two more courts left in this world, and the courts of public opinion and history are eternal." He says this as he is awaiting to take his case to the Supreme Court. Let's see what punishment Lee-Jae-myung will face.
