The co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala have been revealed and it’s looking like a new era for men in the fashion industry with predominant male co-chairs. The line-up includes; Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton and A$AP Rocky, whilst basketball star Lebron James, will be acting as honouree co-chair.
The theme for next year's Gala Spring 2025 is going to be “Superfine: Tailoring Black style”. The theme is inspired by the book “Slaves to Fashion; Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” written by Monica L. Miller. The showcase will explore how Black men have made an impact on style throughout the centuries, particularly through the idea of dandyism. In the 18th century when Black men faced a lot of racial oppression, they used fashion as a way of self-expression and a form of resistance. The look of “dandyism” was reflected through tailored suits, bold accessories and sharpened grooming to challenge what society thought about black men.
Diddy, who once brought high fashion to the industry and created looks and statements was likely to be absent from next year’s Gala. We are looking forward to seeing the likes of Jay-Z in suits that were created by his stylist June Ambrose. Maybe we will even get an appearance on the red carpet by Kanye West who, to us, still is the creative leader of the fashion space in the black and hip-hop community. Congratulations in advance to Pharrell Williams who has had an incredible year in Louis Vuitton and Lebron and his son Bronny James and A$AP Rocky who has just released his album. For Lewis Hamilton, we wish him well in his next race in the United States at the end of October. We applaud actor Colman Domingo on his Oscar nomination for Best Actor 2024. There is a lot of uprise in the succession of black men and in black male voices. Let's hope that the co-chairs reach these expectations and blow the minds of people with their stylish and bold looks.
