While visiting his former bandmate Niall Horan on tour in Buenos Aires, Argentina,
Liam Payne, formerly of the boy band One Direction, died at the age of 31 as a result
of falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room. In the earlier hours on the day
of his death, the hotel's front desk manager, in a second call to authorities, stated,
don't know if the guest's life is in danger, but he has a room with a balcony, and
were a little afraid that he might do something life-threatening.”
Liam was reportedly drunk and on drugs, causing damage to his hotel room. Payne is known to have
been struggling with his mental health as he would document his struggles on social
media.
In the days leading to his death, Liam was dropped by his record label, leaving an air
of questioning whether his death was a direct result of his poor mental health? In his
room, staff found a bottle of whisky and medication for an anxiety drug, Clonazepam.
At 17:00 pm local time, hotel staff called the police; however, they did not arrive till
moments after the fatal fall. The autopsy reports added he may have been fully or
partially unconscious when he fell.
As men’s mental health awareness month is approaching, it's important we take the
time to recognise that men also struggle with mental health and require just as much
support as anyone enduring a challenging time. If you know someone struggling with
