During a ceremony on Thursday in Kigali, Rwanda, Domitilla Mukantaganzwa was appointed the president and chief of justice in the office of Rwanda. She was appointed by the president, Paul Kagame who stated in his address, “Following the path of living in harmony and upholding justice and the laws that we must all embrace.” He highlighted the importance of unity, equality and urged the criminal justice system to be fair and willing when it comes to the justice of their country. She took an oath and vowed that she will fulfil these duties and requests stated by the president of Rwanda, delivering the right justice to the citizens of their nation. Before being appointed, she was the chairperson of the Rwanda Law Reform Commission; she was also the head of the country’s Gacaca courts for almost a decade, while, in her role, she oversaw genocide related cases.
