London Fashion Week Celebrates 40 Years

London Fashion Week commences on Friday, featuring both new and established designers presenting their autumn/winter collections, while fashion enthusiasts join in the festivities to celebrate the event's 40th anniversary this year.

Representatives from the British Fashion Council (BFC) will ring the opening bell at the London Stock Exchange on Thursday, and iconic London landmarks such as Covent Garden and the London Eye will illuminate in green to commemorate the milestone and honor the creative industry's significant contribution to the British economy.

According to the BFC, UK womenswear and menswear sales totaled an estimated £47.5 billion ($59.6 billion) last year, as reported by research firm Mintel.

Established in 1983, the council hosted its inaugural London Fashion Week a year later. Regarded as one of the four major fashion events alongside New York, Milan, and Paris, London Fashion Week is renowned for nurturing emerging talent and showcasing avant-garde trends, with notable designers like the late Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney launching their careers there.

This AW24 season, the BFC NEWGEN Show Space will once again be hosted at The Old Selfridges Hotel, made possible by the generous support of Selfridges. Featured on the schedule are BFC NEWGEN designers including AARON ESH, ANCUȚA SARCA, Chet Lo, Conner Ives, DERRICK, DI PETSA, FEBEN, HARRI, HELEN KIRKUM, Kazna Asker, LABRUM London, Leo Carlton, MASHA POPOVA, Paolo Carzana, ROBYN LYNCH, SAUL NASH, Sinéad O'Dwyer, The Winter House, TOLU COKER, and yuhan wang.
