Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah from the governing South West Africa People’s Organisation has been elected as Namibia’s first female president after this year's election. She won the election with more than 57% of the votes, while her rival, Panduleni Itula, received 26% of the votes. After a three-day extension was implemented at some polling stations in regions of Namibia. Netumbo’s rivals believed that the decision of her being elected was “deeply flawed.” After Netumbo was elected, she stated that “The Namibian nation has voted for peace and stability.” The South West Africa People’s Organisation has been in power in South Africa since the country’s independence in 1990.
