The first woman on the moon will wear Prada

The Artemis III expedition will be the first time not only a woman, but women of
colour have ever been on the moon, and during this historic excursion the astronaut
will be wearing a Prada spacesuit for when she takes her first great steps on the
lunar South Pole. NASA has stated the land may take place as early as September
2026 after a delay of the mission after a test uncovering safety issues. The spacesuit
was revealed at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Milan, when Prada
and partner Axiom Space were giving a presentation. The objective of the mission
Artemis III is to have the first human lunar landing since the landing of Apollo 17 in
1972. Axiom Space decided that Prada would be the suitable brand to assist in
providing the equipment needed to make their goal a reality. The Executive Vice
President of Extravehicular Activity at Axiom Space, Russell Ralston, has
commented on the mission, stating, “We are pioneering a new era in space
exploration" His thoughts on the collaboration with Prada are, “For the first time, we
are leveraging expertise in other industries to craft a better solution for space."
Space exploration is taking a new turn into design collaboration, and we are looking
forward to the launch in September 2026. The spacesuit co-creators have stated the
design of the suit will “withstand extreme temperatures at the lunar south pole and
endure the coldest temperatures in the permanently shadowed regions." Although
the design of the spacesuit does not involve the Prada logo, the iconic red lines and
white surface reflect Prada’s Linea Rossa technical line.
